THE ELECTION I CRAVE FOR!
THE ELECTION I CRAVE FOR!
4 Years ago, the political scene was tense, yes,
though not as it is today, I wondered what will become of my country home, having
seen posters of politically interested citizens with their opposing slogans and
awful looks. In less than a month, the boiling pan was brought down from the
oven and GEJ was announce the President. Then post-election opposition issues
broke forth with the scariest act being the explosion of the BOKO HARAM sect
whose existence had not been felt till then. Progressively, we tried to manage
the scene, yet it grew worse than we could fathom with bomb explosions,
kidnapping and killings rampaging the north and threats on the south.
Considering the statement of one of the then contestants, there was no need for
a prophet to make Nigerians believe that he could have some inclinations and
involvement in such all in a bid of making the nation ‘ungovernable for his
rival who democratically displaced him.
The wake of political alertness and interest rose
again intensely by the beginning of 2014 with the same gladiator-like opponents
in their varying political parties. The political spur and activeness of only 2
parties led me to ask the question, how many political parties are in Nigeria?
The conglomeration of the Action Congress, All Nigerians People Party and part
of the All Progressive Grand Alliance formed the now ‘Politically Radical’ All
Progressive Congress(APC), the strongest political rivals to the Ruling People’s
Democratic Party (PDP) and since this formation, democracy in Nigeria has seen
a reason to stand tall and speak for herself.
The political party motivated ‘hate speeches’,
the intense scrutiny of opposition candidates eligibility, the grassroots
campaign moves, the free-lance political philanthropy, the commitment to
successful accomplishment of promises by the incumbent, the development of the
underdeveloped areas to gain citizens interest, the inquiry into the health
fitness of opponents, the social media activism of supporters of the ‘waring’political
parties, the hyper activeness of election campaign officers and personal
adviser’s on media, even the political involvement of some religiously
affiliated groups, dreams, prophesies, the political radicalism of
free-newspaper-reader association members and the political opinion and
alertness of even children and youths below 18years of age gives me expectations
for the 2015 election.
Having celebrated our centenary in 2014,
patriotism and unity opines that we can remain united if we decide and if we
chose even after the 2015 elections. The election I crave for is birthed in
true democracy, encapsulated with non-post-election violence, enriched with
sustaining unifying factor and garnished with the emergence of a leader who
will not think ethnocentrically but nationalism as his inbred passion.
Though the political scenario has attracted
international interest and watch, I still crave for a 2015 election that will
put Nigerians on the wheels of positive change and scintillating speed into
development. I crave for an election that INEC will tenaciously uphold her integrity
and the masses will graciously accept the results. An election that will be
democratically 80% flawless, an election that its product will aid our economy,
lift our international reputation and increase citizens participation and
willingness to contribute. An election that will awaken other dormant political
parties. An election that months later, I will fearlessly work through the
streets of Mubi and Chibok in Borno states. An election that its aftermath will
solidify patriotism and make Christians erect Cathedrals and great Worship
Auditoriums in the north while the northerners follow suit in the south ( if
they wish) without any fear of rivalry.
It can start with you and me, if we obligatorily
make March 28th 2015 and April 4th 2015 a success.
Yes we can have such only if we believe in
patriotism, unity and Nationalism!!
