THE MERCHANDISE OF MORALITY

Image
Hello 21 st century! Why have your terrain redefined our world and perception of morality? Why have you comfortably harbored individuals basking in the euphoria of a murdered moral stand point? Why has silence to abnorms pleased you enough that you don’t even visit it with distaste? Those three questions have burdened my heart   so much that I wish I could find a reliable answer for it. Not just an answer, but a solution that can turn things around. In the wake of the millennium, we were greeted by the wave of a new global aspiration –The need for Globalization. We embraced it on the grounds of its necessity and ability to reflect the equality of every member of the human race, but today, things have taken a major turn. We have questioned stereotypes so much that we have framed new pathways for ourselves without x-raying why the fences we have pulled down where there in the first place. We have philosophized ourselves into the idea of relativism so much that we have

Letter of Value: Dear Parent!

Dear Parent, I trust you're doing great. Quite recently,  I've been doing some thinking about parenthood,  studying some families with different societal classes,  and have discovered indeed that parenting is not rice and beans with friend plantain and fish! May God strengthen your minds. I write to dare you to help my grieving heart. My findings made me question the understanding you have while going into parenthood. It's painful that poverty has become almost a household co-tenant in many African homes,  but beyond your financial in capacities,  why have you water the seeds of drought in our value system? You blame lack of finances as the reason why your children are not being sent to great schools,  yet the average level once you send them to, you ignore their life styles and pressure them into living ruthlessly without reckon to values both those sluggishly flashed in the school and those you subconsciously bastardize at home. I write to challenge you to run awa

His Truth, Your Truth, The Truth!

Image
Dear friend, Every story you hear from someone about someone else have these 3 sides to it. The truth of the teller, the truth from the third-party and the Real Truth! Until you understand this,  you may always lose value,  worsen relationships, or make wrong decisions that will affect your sense of judgment. It's true we live in a world of relationships,  times when we get closely attached to some persons than the other. We live in a dispensation where we seem to be positively biased towards people who matter so much to us.  Yet we must learn to go the extra-mile of hearing ALL the sides to a story before making decisions, drawing conclusions, or placing judgments. Tosin complained bitterly about how insensitive and cruel Dayo has always been towards her recently to her Mother. She sobbed so hard and was explicit in her description of various times when she had been embarrassed by his actions. Being the only daughter of Mrs. Ade, her mother got quite furious and remi

TRADE-OFF

So I stopped at Cele bustop in Lagos because the GIGM vehicle wouldn't stop at Coker Express for some clarified reason. I crossed over to the other lane,  to enter a mile 2 bus so as to stop along the road,  while carrying my luggage.  After several failed attempts to get into a bus due to my load and the rush by other passengers, I picked up my phone to call by host to ask of an alternative. After due consultations I was encouraged to manage the exorbitant fare and ensure am safe. Just after that a young man spoke in my dialect behind me " be careful that you don't enter one chance. " those words activated "Alert-button" in my brain and I became more conscious of my environment. Just as one pulled in front of me,  I had decided to activate the second button in me called "Button-Lagos-Life". As I lifted up my leg to enter the bus,  just then,  I felt a hand reaching for my phone in my pocket (I had just ended the call and placed the phone ther

IFEMUN 2018: Grooming Leaders for UN Responsibility

Living in a century with varying opinions, societal perceptions,  negligible level of interest in international relations,  and a moderately conscious youth class, the succession of the UN becomes of imperative concern. In a bid to address this, the UN decided to throw it's informative, and resource driven weight to the organization of Model United Nations around the world. Between 21st - 23rd of June 2018, The Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife in conjunction with the United Nations Information Center (UNIC)  in Nigeria,  organized the first IFE Model United Nations Conference. This was one of the numerous MUN conferences that gather over 400,000 delegates in general every year. This conference had a delegate-count of about 250 Nigeria, Cameroon and South African delegates in attendance. 5 committees were simulated including the Security Council. The Secretary General of the UN, Mr. Antonio Guterres was represented by the National Information Officer of UNIC, Nigeria Dr Olus

WHAT IF?

What if you stepped out this morning smiling with every person that comes around you,  including that Neighbor That provoked you yesterday, Would you feel the burdens of past hurt? What if you bought food for that your friend that seem to have squandered his money,  or a young lady looking hungry but can't say a word. Wouldn't you feel happy putting smiles on a hunger striken face? What if you politely tell that young man that his emotional excitement is normal,  but his attraction to you in such perspective will destroy his aspirations, and that necessity demands he aborts that mission , wouldn't it be a lovelier way to speak common sense into the life of that infatuated fellow? What if you stopped the cars to help that physically challenged fellow cross the road,  or even help her carry a load some miles longer,  wouldn't it leave you with a blessing from a touched heart? What if you spent some time speaking with that student/pupil in your class,  and honestly gi

GENERATION NEXT!

Image
Which generation do you belong to? What’s peculiar about your generation?   With the trends of your generation, how much can you vouch for a better next generation? How passionate are you about giving your kids a world worth living in? What efforts are you making in ensuring the next generation celebrate memories of your lifetime? These are the questions that run through my mind from time to time, and I think you also need to consider them as important if you see life from the perspective of Making A Difference. Welcome to a technology age where the speed of communication has been geometrically improved, while deepened the gap of genuine human interaction with real feelings. Welcome to an age where kids are succinctly educated about the historic significance of memorial dates, without being taught the priority of forgiveness beyond painful past. An age where immorality is being justified with an excuse of self-actualization, body autonomy, and liberalism of

APPROACH MATTERS!!!

Image
Something happened yesterday that I just thought about and felt I should share with you. I decided to put on one of my nice Senator outfit. The particular one that each time I put it on, I feel like I am already sitting on a business class of a plane going to Edinburgh. In my usual manner of Making A Difference, I decided to head to the Rivers State NYSC orientation camp, (where I have been carrying out some necessary voluteering duties,) for church service. Then this young "Otondo" met me. With a calm and lovely smile, he said: " Sir you've gat a nice senator outfit, Do you know I can help you make one more lovely than this? " I immediately responded with my $10,000 smile saying a big thank you to him. Just before the iintensity of the smile reduced, he went further to say; "And all I need is your material, and to borrow a sewing machine from one of the tailors at mami, and I'll get done in less than 48hours" That one hit me deeply, that imme

Speak Up!

Good evening people of my lifetime.... I came across this picture online by toastmasters and I couldn't but relate to its truth so strongly.... Daddy Myles most passionate message I ever listened to was "Die Empty ". My Brochia-Area24 can never forget that message,  I'm sure many of you too. But wait! What potential within you have you be consciously unleashing (no matter how tough it is)  since you heard that message. I love to speak. I train people to speak, I'm seriously also honing my personal communication skips every single day. You know why? Cos the world will hold me responsible (consciously or unconsciously)  for things my brain presented to mind to speak about, but I kept silent to it. Especially, we it deals with things that will add value to humanity. Whether you like it or yes,  it's only a matter of time,  you'll start regretting things that have gone wrong because of your silence. Yes,  everybody must not be a public speaker, but calm

MAD Everyday!

Image
I stepped out of my comfortable position behind the cab and headed straight to the front seat,  to share the single seater space with a plump lady. Not because I didn't worth the comfort of my fare,  but because my mind reminded me that the pregnant woman deserved such a sacrifice if she must comfortably enter the cab with us for her appointment. Funny enough she least expected that I'll do so especially, considering how tired I appeared and how well dressed I was - like the guest speaker at an international conference #winks.  But that single act earned me more favour than I anticipated and deeper level of happiness and impact that day. Sometimes we get so careful about our interest that we find it difficult to put a smile on the face of someone else. You get so profit minded that you lose touch of impact in your business dealings. You get so emotional that you transfer aggression unnecessarily. Yet you enjoy the impact made in your life by people who live with that min

Beyond Dreaming!

Image
So much has been said about the power of visualization, that even the 5years old boy has a dream of a golden future. A future where he sits in a Leonardo Da Vinci decorated apartment, consuming sauced vegetables and grilled fish, enjoying the luxury of the smartest technological equipment their financial affluence has afforded them. We have told, written, discussed and criticized our dreams about our countries, states and life. We have painted the most descriptive pictures of fantasies, and consoled our aggrieved and frustrated hearts with hope of a future of our dreams. But Friend… How much efforts have we put into the realization of this dream? Many a times, I speak to people about discovering purpose. I create the positive energy in them about why they must discover and understand purpose in life. But these days, I think there is a different dimension to that message that needs to be preached, to bridge the gap between Purpose Discovery and Purpose Achievement. That is the me

GIRL CHILD SERIES 2: THE GIRLCHILD DON'T DESERVE THIS PAINS

Image
Female Genital Mutilation (or female genital cutting), comprises all surgical procedures involving partial or total removal of the external genitalia or other injuries to the female genital organs for cultural or other non-therapeutic reasons FGM is practiced in about 28 African countries as well as in a few scattered communities in other parts of the world. It is one of the most serious forms of violence against the girl child/woman and is practiced in Nigeria for a number of reasons: • Psychosexual: to attenuate sexual desire in the female, maintain chastity and virginity before marriage and fidelity during marriage, and increase male sexual pleasure. • Sociological:  for  identification  with  the  cultural  heritage,  initiation  of  girls  into womanhood, social integration and maintenance of social cohesion and social acceptance. • Hygiene and aesthetics: among some societies, the external female genitals are considered unclean and unsightly, and so are removed to

International Women's Day 2018: Meet the Woman!!

Image
As we celebrate the International Women's Day 2018, we need to always remember; In a woman lies a great deal of strength. It's what best defines her. Oh, how she makes being a woman seem like it's a piece of cake. How she carries on like life has got no hold on her She believes she can, and so she does! Where she's absent, it becomes obvious that something is missing. When all hell lets loose; when life seems to come in the way; when it looks like she's on the verge of breaking down, that's when she appears in all her glory - strong and ready to conquer the world. They say they do not understand her. How she presses on, resilient and ever ready to make lemonades from life's lemons. When the ups and downs and the tossing around of life try to disfigure her, she ends up getting a better figure than the last. She multitasks even unconsciously. Little wonder people say "what a man can do, a woman can do better" Isn't it amazing that the

GIRL CHILD SERIES : ACCEPTING THE GIRL CHILD.

Part of the difference we can make in our society today is to advocate against gender stereotypes that relegated the girl child to the background. Enjoy this write-up from a fellow advocate. 👇 If someone brought up the topic of gender preference, do you react by saying, ‘Gender preference? Really? Isn’t it a thing of the past?’ Your reaction is probably due to the fact that you see around you more girls among top-ranking students; more women having jobs, access to education, money and resources; more women holding positions of authority and making strides in all fields. But, what about all those girls and women who didn’t even get a chance to live? Here are a few reasons for gender preference in Nigeria - socio-cultural factors like dowry, wedding expenses, custom of gift-giving, inability of girls to take care of parents after marriage, domestic violence, ill treatment by husbands and in-laws, ill treatment on account of giving birth to a girl, and so on. This gender preferenc

EMBARRASSED BY TRASH!!!

Hehehehe….. If you believe “Shit happens” you’ll resonate with this very well… It’s not like Friday was the day I learnt this lesson, but it made me more conscious of the truth. After attending a function in Abia State that day, it was already some minutes to 5pm, and I needed to head back to Rivers State same day. I happen to be sometimes selective in the vehicle I use, especially when I choose to take road side vehicles. Hehhehe…. I cannot comman pay the same amount of money to a ‘’rickety’’ car when I could have a ‘’nice” one take me to same place for same price nah! I searched and waited for a hummer bus that will be going to Aba, all to no avail. I even saw one, but it was looking scraggy #CoversMyFace, so I let it pass by. I finally got to the express where my longing heart assured me that I would get a variety to select from. Guess what???? None was there, Only an L300 bus with panel-beaten sides, and rough seats. Then it dawn on me that time had gone, and my best o
