IFEMUN 2018: Grooming Leaders for UN Responsibility

Living in a century with varying opinions, societal perceptions,  negligible level of interest in international relations,  and a moderately conscious youth class, the succession of the UN becomes of imperative concern.

In a bid to address this, the UN decided to throw it's informative, and resource driven weight to the organization of Model United Nations around the world.

Between 21st - 23rd of June 2018, The Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife in conjunction with the United Nations Information Center (UNIC)  in Nigeria,  organized the first IFE Model United Nations Conference. This was one of the numerous MUN conferences that gather over 400,000 delegates in general every year. This conference had a delegate-count of about 250 Nigeria, Cameroon and South African delegates in attendance. 5 committees were simulated including the Security Council. The Secretary General of the UN, Mr. Antonio Guterres was represented by the National Information Officer of UNIC, Nigeria Dr Oluseyi Soremekun.

The importance of MUN's cannot be over emphasized especially, in the wave of growing globalization and need for a generation that will replace the current UN work force. Every youth with the intent of making significant difference on the international space, or that has an intention of working with the UN needs these exposure.

MUN is a priceless experience that not only trains Young Minds on how to be astute diplomats,  but also,  helps improve public speaking skills,  negotiations skills,  critical thinking abilities and train young minds on how to remain tolerant and maintain inclusive mindset in dealings with members of the society.

The just concluded IFEMUN conference had Mr. Chimezie Ojisi as the President of the General Assembly, Mr. Patrick Ojunde as the Secretary of the General Assembly, as well as Mr. Joshua Adama Ugbede, Mr. Daniel Obiyo, Ms. Jewel Ike-Obiora Daberechi, Mr. Kehinde Odanye, Mr. Damilola Ifeoluwa Kehinde, and Ms. Cynthia Simeon Akhagbeme as key members of the Secretariat and Chair persons of the various committees simulated.

D BROKEN SILENCE!!!! Some 8years ago , I feared standing up in the midst of a crowd not to talk of speaking to them. The irony about the issue was that i always had a succinct idea that i believed was needful to place this aright, but i always squabble in fear and let my mouths get sealed up. She got into trouble because i found it difficult to say a word and prove her guiltless. I got bullied a couple of times because my silence made them feel I was configured to be maltreated. I missed bonus marks in the class, not because I didn't know the answer to the "seemingly tough question" but because i just kept silence about my knowledge , feeling so timid to say my mind.
