It’s a slow fade when black and white turns to grey and doubt invades

Choices made! A price will be paid.

People never crumble in a day.

Of all the gospel music’s I enjoy, I particularly cherish “Slow Fade” sang by Ray Bolts. How I wish He really was conscious of the lyrics of that song. Its so unique a song that has a deep truth both to the Christian, Non-Christian or Atheist… It tells how families never crumble in a day. How relationships never dies in a day, How failure never emerges in a day, and how little by little our actions and consent informs the great Scar the obivious wound leaves or the Great Success we cling to.

Last week Saturday, My roommate decide to fix the standing fan that was
malfunctioning a bit. It suddenly started making unpleasant sounds and we decided to do the troubleshooting #Winks. Half way into the quest for solution, we were amazed by what we saw. A bowl plate sized dust particles that were in conspicuous clumps like the hairs from a matured Afro-Hair finally trimmed. In utter shock I stood amazed, wandering if anyone was responsible for intentionally placing such magnitude of debris on the innocent fan. Gradually, we cleaned it up and today, the blazes rotate in perfect cruise without such awful noises. Hurray!!!!

Hey calm down!!!! Get the point…..

Every second of idleness creates a comfortable entry of every dust particle into that fan. The fan couldn’t control this cos it gat no ratio But how about our lives and being?

Day by day, Hour after Hour, Seconds by Fento-Seconds, the gate way of our intellect, Personality and Habit receives entry request by a great number of concerns that tickle our fancy. Sometimes we play ignorant of the need to say no, most times we try to justify why the uncertain decision should be taken even when we understand that it’s not the best option for us. Remember, it’s a slow fade when you give yourself away!!!

Having been groomed with some scriptural principles and some ethical ideologies, gradually the dwindling wind of moral perversion sweeps across and leaves new thoughts in our hearts. Some decide to try it out! Some decide to change their decisions ASAP without thinking twice feeling it’s still within their ability to opt out. It gradually eats them up that turning back to the right thing becomes near impossible. We must be careful. It’s a slow fade when you give your Heart, Character, Dignity and Self-esteem away.

Peer influence is so strong today that many take decisions not because they understand the consequences, but because it seems to be the trend. Friend always remember, your purpose for existence aint same with He’s/Her’s Don’t be carried away. Leaving to please everybody is impossible cos in the quest to do so, you will give your unique self away to what you may not easily come out from.

Let’s be a bit practical here!!! From, let me just hang out with Him (even when your mind tells you He isn’t the best), it gradually transcends to let me try his idea out, Let me change it a little so that he will accept me, You’re warned. Hey! It doesn’t matter becomes your reply! In no distant time…. It dawns on you how gradually you’ve slip away from the truth you stand for.

Hold firm to the truth and values you know. Stand fast for the right you’re convinced about. Say no to little suggestions that challenge and tends to change the truth you subscribe to. Be open to change but be wise enough to sieve all such on a filter of truth, relevance and posterity.


There is a second side to this too.. Little logical ideas and neccessary steps in a right direction also build our personality. I happened to meet with the District(For Africa) President of Toast Masters international, he shared stories how he has been a member for 10years. then i began to wonder how easy it had been for him to consistently grow in this for 365(6)days X 10 huh!!! However, i saw how little by little with passion, consistency and willingness to make a difference, he accepted the right tiny drops of positive ideas that came to his intellectual palace (Mind) and he was and is  who he is today.
Gradually we build great castles, But gradually also we let the termite eat it down. Ironically it seems alright and all fine when they start but greatly disastrous when we fall.

Always remember to guard your heart and don’t trade it for pleasure. Guide your personality don’t exchange it for shadows. Always be careful of slow fades that tries to turn you away from the path of greatness… They could seem insignificant, but cannot act without your consent. While the Fan can't decide, you can!
