COLLABORATION'S EDGE
Just after the announcement of the criteria for a global idea challenge, several youths jumped into work. There was an option to either present as an individual competitor or as a team. Femi chose to run solo as he had a very intriguing idea he had always looked for the opportunity to develop showcase and get celebrated about.
Two weeks down the line, just 3days to the draw for the first phase, he almost gave up out of frustration. The challenge wasn't that he didn't know what he need to achieve, but he didn't have any single idea about how to achieve a major process in the idea. He had surfed the internet, but was not making any headway. He had decided not to ask any direct question to avoid having his idea hijacked. And this caused him not to get any meaningful answer till 5mins to the deadline when he just added some disconcerted thoughts.
Uche and his team were also working on a project that needed a simulation. They didn't have a simulation lab. When Emeka, one of Uches team members asked for Femi's permission to use his lab, he blatantly refused with an excuse that they were competitors, and his lab was not going to be free until the end of the final phase.
When the first set of selections were made, luckily enough, Femi's idea was the very last to make the list just after Uche's idea. They both celebrated separately, but this stage called for harder efforts and progress on their respective works, as the basis of their selection for this phase was just on the progress they had made from idea conception.
When it dawned on Femi that he was likely not going to make any further headway without resolving the issue he had at stage one, he adviced himself, and expunged pride from his life, then started asking the right questions and seeking help and collaboration for the idea to fly. His first stop was at Uche's team. He apologized and told them to come and use his lab. As happy as Uche was he thanked him and asked him how much progress he had made. And that was the question that changed Femi's life.
Guess what?
Uche was a specialist in designing the model that had frustrated Femi. As Femi opened up and sort for help, Uche helped him fix it, gave him an awesome sustainable strategy to market the idea further and helped him complete the project. While Femi as well setup the simulation lab and help Uche's team with their analysis in the lab.
What do you think was the outcome of the final stage?
It is said in life, if you want to go fast, go alone, but if you wish to run far, run with someone. This is a truth that has stood the test of several experiences. Many young minds feel that there is a greater joy being the sole hero of an adventure, but they forget that 21st century has bigger sophistication that collaboration is the best form of competition. Ever studied about the secret behind the success of Israeli businesses?
Collaboration is the answer.
They work for themselves even while having their individual companies and that helps add variety to their business ideas and makes it stronger and more acceptable.
Variety remains the spice of life, and you can only experience its best taste when you eat from a meal cooked by several brillant minds. Stop being scared that your idea will be hijacked. If you are a Christian, you will know that the idea is not yours but Gods'. You are just a carrier of the idea, and the original idea giver will help you achieve it in so much a unique way that no other human can ever think of. However, because he hasn't created only you with a smart brain, he wants you to share your leading thoughts with trusted friends who will work together with you till it is achieved.
Collaboration gives you an edge when it is rightly explored. When you partner with likeminds, you get amazing results that has a compound effect deeper than what your single mind could have produced. This is so because collaboration seeks for a blend of multiple experiences relevant for an anticipated success.
A wrong collaboration ruins your efforts and makes the whole idea useless. Collaborating in an examination hall is never right...its malpractice and malpractice is a moral wrong. Collaborating to commit a crime will give you a compound effect of judicial doom.
Collaboration indeed gives an edge. If a wrong collaboration, its a damning edge that can destroy both integrity and personality. But a right collaboration affords you a life long celebration of sustainable success.
At the End of the idea challenge, Uche's team emerged the Winner, and Femi's idea the Second out of 10 finalist competitors. The glamour and excitement in between the both parties made a statement at the grand finale that left everyone with the lesson that " The best form of competition is collaboration ".
The first collaboration you need to engage is one with the Savior. He's a partner that never fails to lead. He then leads you to the right person that will also help you succeed and achieve your desired success. Embrace Christ today and have your ideas get a touch of divine breath for an amazing success in life!
Don't run alone, cause existing in isolation is never a solution!
