WORLD DAY OF THE BOY CHILD
16th May happens to be the Day of the Boy Child.
We celebrate every boychild out there that has taken a resolve to live a significant life, Respect the female folks, and Surrender their tendencies and yearnings to the will and purpose of the maker for their lives.
This year's theme happens to be "Protecting our boys, reclaiming our heritage".
Wait a minute!
How true does that sound in your mind? Actually this is as true as you can ever imagine it. The young boys out there are passing through a whole lot of pains and uncertainties in their transition from boyhood to adulthood.
Pains that have made them think about superimposing their weakness and vulnerabilities all in the name of proving themselves as strong people that have the capacity to be called men.
There's been a worrisome negligence on the male child since the gospel of developing the female child became an anthem. Little did we see how much such negligence was costing the efforts towards the females.
It played a blind side to their tendencies that became gruesome realities. It forced them to buy into narratives like "Men don't cry", narratives that robbed them true expression of their pains, and hindered helpers from rescuing them. The negligence gave them the effrontery to live without foresight, such that they could only find relief and hope in blueprints that only adore instant gratification. And land them into a lifetime of regrets.
We keep losing them to pornography and wonder why the rape incidents are on increase. We lose them to alcoholism and drugs yet wonder why our streets knows no peace. We leave them to uncensored media content, and get surprised when the act in the most vile manner even at their trending 20s.
We cry for our future, and ask " What crop of leaders will lead our kid?" Yet we pay little attention to their growth.
We need to see from the lens that depicts greatness. Only through that lens can we really understand that protecting our boys from wrong narratives, lifestyles, pop culture, morally decadent heroism and the ills of the 21st century is our best bet at reclaiming our heritage. The heritage that guarantees safety for the girl child, hope for our unborn kids, and sustainability of our generations struggles.
Hence, we employ every young and old person out there passionate about making the world a better place, to spend sometime beyond today to groom a boy child!
